Bronze Patina experament
I have created new works in bronze for my solo upcoming show EMOTICON at Galleria Objets. As I have been Artist in Residence at UCA Farnham this year I have used their facilities to cast bronze pieces that interact with a glass hand.
I wanted to make this part of the sculpture to be technicoloured, resembling mood rings of the late 90s / early 2000s. To achieve this I have experimented with mixing various patina chemicals such as soda ash, with liquid gas to burn the bronze. The resulting colour is an amazing metalic rainbow of technicolour.
Although the colour looks amazing now, I still need to find a way to stabilise it as traditional methods such as clear coat or renaissance wax seem to dull the vibrancy and metallic look of the patina.
